DaVita Labs:

DaVita Labs is a large, state of the art, highly-automated laboratory which primarily supports End Stage Kidney Disease patients who receive dialysis treatments at DaVita Kidney Care's more than 2,000 outpatient dialysis programs across the United States. The work performed by DaVita Labs is critical to the success of clinical programs supporting approximately 200,000 patients. DaVita Labs is a subsidiary of DaVita, Inc. DaVita Labs is located in DeLand, Florida, close to Orlando and a large number of beach communities.

Details About the Role:

The Director of Quality leads a team of approximately eight quality professionals and has ownership of the strategic direction, development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Laboratory Quality Management System (QMS). S/he partners and collaborates with Medical Directors, senior leaders, departmental managers, and front line teammates in all areas of the clinical laboratory and support departments to ensure that the laboratory produces consistently accurate and reliable results and complies with applicable regulations and standards.

The role will report to the General Manager of DaVita Labs.

Among the responsibilities of this role are:

  • Monitors, interprets, and strategically implements guidance from multiple sources, including but not limited to Team Quest (Compliance), CLIA, CAP, and Good Lab Practices to produce an effective Laboratory Quality Management System (QMS).

  • Develops, modifies and executes laboratory policies that affect immediate operations and may have lab-wide effect. Includes but is not limited to: direction of instrument and IT validations, change control impacting quality of lab product or service, auditing, inventory management, vendor management, and document management.

  • Maintains clinical laboratory licensure and ensures effective document management; responds to on-site external audits and requests for information by regulators.

  • Provides leadership to direct reports.

  • Maintains audit readiness within the laboratory, including execution of internal audits.

  • Partners collaboratively with operations and Medical Directors to design and implement continuous improvement initiatives impacting clinical quality.

Job Requirements:

In order to be successful in the role, candidates must be effective leading their own team and influencing change through other teams. Continuous Improvement is not only a DaVita Core Value, it is at heart of what is expected from our Quality team. As a result, we have a strong preference for candidates with Six Sigma Black Belt certification. Because we have hundreds of teammates who work on site most days, this role is hybrid where candidates will have the flexibility to work remotely one or two days most weeks.

Although travel will be limited through 2021, travel could be up to 25% for short periods in 2022 and beyond.

Additional job requirements include:

  • Bachelor degree (MBA or other Master degree preferred)

  • Minimum five years direct leadership experience

  • Evidence of success in collaboration and critical thinking

Preferred experiences include:

  • Experience in Quality or other experience in a clinical laboratory settings

  • Experience building out and/or maintaining a Quality Management System

  • Experience as a clinical laboratory surveyor

  • Experience with clinical laboratory regulations in Florida, New York and California

  • Experience apply for or operating under ISO standards
