Buena Vista University seeks a dynamic leader to be its Director of the Center of Diversity and Inclusion (CDI). The Director is a driving force behind BVU's efforts to foster a campus environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Your role will be to provide visionary leadership, spark meaningful conversations, and champion initiatives that promote diversity, belonging, and inclusion. As a member of the Student Success team, you'll be at the heart of this mission, driving change, and making a difference every day. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and advance belonging and inclusion efforts on campus, embracing opportunities for improvement and ensuring that emerging issues are met with proactive solutions.
  • Design, develop, and execute programs and initiatives that open conversations, challenge perspectives, and celebrate diversity.
  • Collaborate with dynamic student organizations within the CDI, igniting passion and purpose among student leaders and cultivating a welcoming and inclusive campus community where every voice is heard and respected.
  • Develop initiatives that enhance the recruitment, retention, and success of historically marginalized student populations, breaking down barriers and creating pathways to achievement.
  • Lead the BVU Diversity Ambassadors program and collaborate with Human Resources to foster diversity and inclusion professional development within our faculty and staff.
  • Drive international student recruitment efforts, working with Admissions and Marketing teams to attract a diverse, global student body that enriches our community.
  • Build bridges of support for international students, providing resources and guidance to ensure their academic, cultural, and social success at BVU.
  • Keep your finger on the pulse of regional and national developments in diversity and inclusion in higher education, sharing insights to propel our university forward.
Qualifications:
  • Possess a master's degree in a related field (social justice, student affairs, higher education/organizational leadership, etc.), with at least 3 years of professional experience in diversity and inclusion initiatives, ideally within higher education.
  • Showcase your ability to collaborate across differences, engaging with various groups including students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community members.
  • Command attention with your exceptional verbal and written communication skills and be adept at facilitating discussions and delivering impactful presentations.
  • Be familiar with the Student Exchange & Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
  • Have budgetary experience, adaptability, and collaborative style
  • Be bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends
