SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development (AVP), the Director of Major and Leadership Giving is responsible for the overall management of the major and leadership giving programs. Oversees a team consisting of major giving officers and leadership giving officers as the University of Richmond prepares for a comprehensive campaign. Works in consultation with the AVP to set and achieve annual team activity/fundraising metrics as well as his/her own.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages and coaches all aspects of the major and leadership giving programs, including developing, evaluating and implementing strategies for securing philanthropic resources as well as coordinating gift officer portfolio management.
  • Manages an assigned portfolio of highly rated alumni and parent prospects.
  • Collaborates and partners closely with Vice President for Advancement, AVP of Development, Development Directors, President's staff, Deans, and other senior University administrators to coordinate philanthropic engagement and contribute to the overall success of the University of Richmond's comprehensive campaign.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and coaching skills, along with the ability to work with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, demonstrate an understanding of the ethical principles associated with working in development, and to use discretion in interactions with members of the University of Richmond community.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team environment with a high degree of collegiality; honesty and transparency are two other important abilities.
  • Strong written, communication, organizational, and analytical skills as well as a sense of humor.
  • Demonstrated record of soliciting and closing five, six, and seven figure philanthropic gifts.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft office and fund-raising software applications, including database management (The University of Richmond uses BBCRM).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • A bachelor's degree is required; masters preferred.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in development with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of management experience.
  • Experience in a higher education setting is preferred.
WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
  • Seasonal, evening, and weekend work will be periodically required throughout the year (e.g. Family Weekend, Homecoming Reunion, etc.)
  • External travel is expected
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 11 (Hiring Range: $101,670.00 to $139,797.00 annually)
