Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a Director, Center for Integrated Learning position at the Walla Walla campus.

General Description:

The mission of the Center for Integrated Learning (CIL) is to develop and enhance relevant, equitable, and innovative teaching and learning by ensuring opportunities for faculty and staff professional development in curriculum planning, course design and instruction, student engagement, and learning assessment within the framework of continuous improvement. The Director provides leadership, and supports the continuing development and implementation of academic assessment initiatives that systematically improve student learning outcomes achievement and academic program quality. This position is responsible for ensuring support for all students and their engagement in the learning process. The Director supervises an Instructional Designer, Faculty Canvas Support Specialist(s), and a Faculty Assessment Coordinator. The Director works collaboratively with faculty and staff to develop quality programs and courses across all modalities that align with outcomes and utilize appropriate andragogical approaches, innovative educational technologies, effective instructional design models, and functional practices in Universal Design.


Essential Functions:


  • Provides college-wide transformative leadership by developing and enhancing teaching and learning through identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective course design, learning outcomes, and andragogical strategies.
  • Supervises and manages Center faculty and staff, such as the Instructional Designer, Faculty Canvas Support Specialist(s), and Faculty Assessment Coordinator.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director of Technology Services in evaluating the performance of the Educational Technologist.
  • Develops and implements, in collaboration with Instructional Leadership, a Faculty Canvas Support Specialist Program to assist with faculty professional development.
  • Contributes to a continuous improvement culture that leverages course survey data, quality assurance feedback, faculty and instructor feedback, and other sources of input.
  • Fulfills and reviews the Center's mission, vision, objectives, and equity work plan to ensure alignment with the College's strategic plan.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources, Association for Higher Education, Faculty Senate, Technology Services, various instructional areas, and other stakeholders in establishing, directing, implementing, and sustaining instructional professional development opportunities.
  • Participates as a member of the Professional Development Committee.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures ensuring compliance with the Federal Education Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) and National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) in collaboration with the Dean and Vice President of Instruction.
  • Provides support and coordinates with Deans, Department Chairs, and faculty to improve cohesion of online degrees and certificate offerings, and to develop and support new online pathways.
  • Prepares recommendations for and administers the Center's budget; oversees all expenditures for goods, services, and personnel.
  • Assists, advises, and trains faculty and staff in the theory and practice of designing, developing, delivering, measuring and assessing learning in a variety of modalities, including, but not limited to: face-to-face, online, hybrid, HyFlex (or its equivalent), and other synchronous and asynchronous technology-enhanced modalities.
  • Develops learning and training opportunities for faculty through a range of technological competencies
  • Provides individual consultation and coaching, and conducts workshops using various technologies.
  • Develops and manages, in collaboration with the Center's team, an electronic resource center that addresses theory and practice of effective distance pedagogy, instructional design, Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act and other UDL principles.
  • Supports Technology Services in administering, updating, and supporting the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Analyzes institutional needs and resources related to instructional delivery through technology
  • Identifies future professional development needs based on feedback from faculty and deans.
  • Remains current on educational, instructional, and technological tools, software, and methods to enhance student success at the College.
  • Builds relationships of trust and influence to actively increase use of new teaching technologies for faculty.
  • Participates on college-wide bodies, such as Curriculum Council, Outcomes & Assessment Committee.
  • Represents the College and attend meetings as part of the Washington State eLearning Council (eLC).

  • Ability to teach via a Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas)
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize 21st-century teaching modalities that involve technology, including HyFlex (or equivalent).
  • Skilled in creating a trusting atmosphere by regularly communicating, acting accountably, transparently, and with integrity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to be “change ready” and flexible in adjusting an approach or demeanor to match the shifting demands of different situations.
  • Skilled in using feedback and reflection to gain insight into personal strengths and areas of improvement and adjusts as needed.

  • Demonstrated ability to act on new opportunities and challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.
  • Skilled in using innovative approaches and moving instructional methods and technologies forward independently and collectively.


  • Required Qualifications
    Equivalent education/experience may substitute at the discretion of the College.

  • Master's degree in Educational/Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or closely related field.
  • Two years' experience in higher education leadership role (Department Chair, Director, etc.) or in an eLearning Department (Instructional Designer, Education Technologist, etc.).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in college-level teaching or serving as an educator of educators; teaching experience as a teaching assistant or adjunct instructor may count toward the requirement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of research and literature in the fields of faculty development, instructional technology, instructional design, learning theories, and learning outcomes assessment.
  • Experience with Canvas, or comparable Learning Management System.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or EdD in Higher Education Leadership.
  • Five years' experience in Higher Education Leadership (Department Chair, Director, etc.) or in an eLearning Department (Instructional Designer, Education Technologist, etc.).
  • Experience teaching via a variety of modalities - online, hybrid, web- or technology-enhanced, face-to-face, or audio/video.
  • Experience with NC-SARA.
  • Bilingual, especially in Spanish/English.

    Conditions/Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time administrative professional position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Official college transcripts required at time of hire. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. The college is a tobacco free institution.

    Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in an office environment. Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in office environments. This contract position work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday 8-hours each day. During the summer, work schedule is Monday through Thursday 10-hours each day. Frequent contact with students, faculty, staff, members of the community, and community partners. Some travel required; regular visits to College campuses (Clarkston, Washington State Penitentiary, Coyote Ridge Corrections Center).

    Compensation:

    Annual salary range: $85,904 - $91,273. The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
