This small group works closely with, but sits outside the typical business channels, and is dedicated to working on high-risk, radical innovation projects using cutting edge technology and tools. The DevOps Engineer builds classroom solutions, migrates some awesome content, and monetizes a new channel for ACT and is part of the development, hosting and production support for the Learning Business Unit products.
The DevOps Engineer responsibilities include infrastructure and software deployment aut omation as well as supporting or leading architecting and implementing the strategy. This position works closely with Software Development, QA, Performance, and Security teams to achieve streamlined continuous integration/delivery objectives.
We have one position to fill and the level at which the position will be filled is determined by the qualifications of the finalist.
What you will be working on:
- Creates roadmaps and stories for deployment and automation
- Leads others to automate the provisioning of application environments including servers, containers, network, and monitoring
- Provides direction for software development teams to understand and provision the necessary infrastructure to run their applications
- Establishes deployment pipelines strategy and implementation
- Creates reference architecture and steers implantation
- Analyzes and troubleshoots complex technical problems
- Guides programmers/developers on technical issues that impact releases, deployment, and delivery
- Mentors fellow team members and software development teams on DevOps processes and procedures
- Develops, builds, and designs reusable program elements
This could be the job for you if you have (minimum requirements):
- Level II requires at least 3 years of progressively responsible IT experience
- Senior level requires at least 5 years of progressively responsible IT experience that includes:
- Experience leading the working across teams and multiple projects - providing work direction, training, guidance, and feedback
- Demonstrated ability to support, mentor, coach and advise team members
- Thought leader and subject matter expertise on future technologies used for automation and continuous delivery
- Knowledge of Linux administration
- Knowledge of relational databases, database tuning, and performance testing
- Strong programming skills with at least one dynamically typed language such as Python, Perl, or Ruby
- Understanding of the Agile development methodology
- Ability to develop and maintain working relationships across teams
- Good decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
- Highly autonomous and demonstrated ability to take initiative
- Having a start-up and leading tech mentality is a must
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Results-oriented and able to work across the organization
- Ability to navigate through changes in a rapidly transforming organization
- Experience with continuous integration/delivery automation tools (CircleCI) and/or experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform)
- Experience with:
- SQL, mySQL, or Postgres
- continuous integration/delivery automation tools (Jenkins preferred for level II and required for Senior level)
- infrastructure automation (Ansible preferred for level II and required for Senior level)
- writing automation for at least one cloud-platform (AWS preferred for level II and required for Senior level)
- using software version control (Git/Bitbucket preferred for level II and required for Senior level)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related area required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
