Roles and Responsibilities

The Data Engineer role works closely with Stakeholders and Analysts to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions. They provide data that is accurate, congruent and reliable, and is easily accessible. The Data Engineer is responsible for the full life cycle development, implementation, production support, and performance tuning of the Operations Data Mart. They design and implement analytical solutions and audit logs including both the design of table structures and the processes used to populate those structures with data from internal/external sources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build data models to conform to our existing EDW architecture.
  • Design and build data pipelines using tools – Microsoft SSIS etc.
  • Implement data structures using best practices in data modeling, processes and technologies.
  • Write complex queries, Stored procedures, build indexes etc. in SQL, Snowflake etc. and perform validation, debug and report bugs. Understand business strategy and cascade business intelligence needs to the database level by collaborating with other Engineers & Analysts in the team.
  • Ensure and monitor data security compliance with Enterprise policies and regulations and implement auditing/logging and error handling features of data integration and data movement. Measure and tune performance of various data components.
  • Support and assist Program Analytics with the integration of BI platforms and applications.
  • Collaborate with Business Intelligence, IT to ensure new capabilities comply with the information needs of the business.

Skill/Job Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of hands on work expertise in database development (SQL server, Snowflake, MongoDB) creating objects, writing complex queries, stored procedures, calculations, transformations, and aggregations.
  • Minimum 3+ years of hand on work experience with full life cycle development, implementation, management, and performance tuning of Enterprise Data Warehouse systems.
  • Experience building and managing data flows to and from cloud applications (AWS)
  • Strong experience with performance and scalability design and testing. Experience with Information Architecture and Data Modeling Principles.
  • Minimum 5+ years Business Intelligence / Data Warehouse development experience
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in ETL development tools, preferably with knowledge of Microsoft Integration Services 2005 or greater (SSIS), SAP Data Services, SAP SLT and Python.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence tools and systems required. Experience with Python is a plus.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Management or specialized training/certification or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Must be a self-motivated, energetic, detail-oriented team player passionate about producing high quality Analytics deliverables.
