Olympic College (OC) is recruiting a full-time tenure-track faculty to teach courses in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management. OC is in search of faculty members who are deeply committed to student-centered education and the promotion of an inclusive and equitable learning environment. As a comprehensive community college, we offer a wide range of programs, including Transitional Studies (e.g., high school diploma and GED preparation, as well as English for English Language Learners), academic transfer and workforce education degrees, and certificates, five applied baccalaureate degrees, and community education services across our two-county region.

We are actively seeking applicants who are passionate about student-centered learning, closing achievement gaps, promoting diversity, and creating opportunities for social justice education. The successful candidate will be skilled in making data-informed decisions in their teaching practices. This role primarily involves the preparation and delivery of courses in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management.

The faculty in this position will teach classes that prepare students for careers in commercial cooking, dining room service, and kitchen supervision. Culinary Arts is an accredited program by the American Culinary Federation Foundation (ACF), Inc.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and teach a wide range of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management course(s) in accordance with the college catalog, schedule of classes, course outlines, course, syllabi, and any departmental guidelines.
  • Teach in-person courses in Bremerton and at other Olympic College campuses / sites in Kitsap and Mason counties, when required.
  • Provide quality teaching including related preparation, grading, and record keeping; class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested; academic advising and assessment for students.
  • Contribute to development of program curriculum and student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain physical office hours for student consultation; attend faculty, department, and division meetings, serve on college committees, and participate in college governance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned and/or required.
  • Program Specific Responsibilities
  • Emphasis is on classic cuisine production and theory in a practical, hands-on training setting: including menu development, food production, estimating product usage and requisitions requirements, training in costs controls, and time management.
  • Organizes practical and technical instruction; lectures on theory techniques, and terminology.
  • Instructs in subject areas such as hand tools and production equipment, codes and regulations, safety, and sanitation.
  • Manage the Culinary Arts Restaurant, using it as a classroom lab while following all state and federal policies and procedures related to safety.
  • Develop and maintain industry and community support for culinary arts programs as well as maintain contact with industry for internship referrals and follow-up activities.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Culinary Arts or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in commercial cooking.
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a professional-technical certificate to teach in the above technical area.
  • Valid First Aid certificate (may be completed after hire).
  • Information technology competency and ability to embrace and learn new instructional technologies.

  • Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts or related field.
  • Three years successful college teaching, particularly community college teaching or related training experience.
  • Experience as an executive chef.
  • Experience using online learning management systems;

    Terms of Employment

    We are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered. Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment.

    This is a full-time faculty position contracted on an annual basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual contract days remaining in the academic year. The salary listed is a range based on per month for the quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments may be a part of the instructional load.
