Commodity Manager - Boulder, CO

Particle Measuring Systems (PMS) sets the standard for cleanroom contamination monitoring. With more than 60 patents, we create the technology that enables our customers to make fact-based decisions, improve process yields and comply with ever-changing regulatory requirements.

The Role

The Commodity Manager is responsible for providing the design and implementation of sourcing solutions that ensure continuity of direct and indirect spend of supplies enabling various business groups to operate efficiently, support internal requirements, corporate cost objectives, and enables cost effective solutions for spending across the North America, South America, APAC, and EMEA regions. Responsible for oversight on performance metrics related to Quality, Delivery, and Cost, and have overall responsible to analyze and execute decisions regarding supplier selection, overall performance, and problem resolution/crisis management. A successful candidate for this position will have experience with developing commodity management strategies and implementing policies that mandate supplier compliance with company financial, environmental and human rights objectives. Preferred candidates will have both business and technical experience in the areas of lasers, optics, optical coatings, and precision machining.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides management support for business and strategic procurement activities related to Direct and Indirect Spend
  • Provides strategic supply chain management by developing lean and highly responsive suppliers; collaborate with Buyers to ensure performance of monthly and quarterly business reviews with identified key suppliers in the field of optics, laser, electronics, machined parts, etc.
  • Develop global materials management procedures and fully implement across all global manufacturing and field service sites.
  • Maintain compliance with corporate and manufacturing operational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the highest ethical standards are adhered to in procurement practices.
  • Work with Buyers and Supplier Quality Engineers to ensure that suppliers are capable of meeting PMS' objectives related to maintaining the critical balance between cost, quality and assurance of supply as required by the growth projections of the company and requirements for security of instrument performance and safety ratings.
  • Develops key suppliers to meet supplier certification requirements, and reviews and maintains metrics related to supplier performance standards.
  • Evaluates geo-political influences, market and price trends, new products, and manufacturing processes that improve overall commodity team performance.
  • Overall responsibilities for price negotiations and all business award decisions within established decision hierarchy
  • Develops and administers supplier contracts for managing costs, payment terms, schedules, performance factors, service levels, supplier liability limits, and continuity of supply.
  • Works closely with suppliers to identify non-value-added processes and costs, as well as opportunities for leveraged buying of materials that may be common across platforms in the material supply chain.
  • Takes action to ensure continuous improvement of the Buyer team's productivity and effectiveness through adequate training of personnel.
  • Communicates supplier and commodity strategy, purpose, and long-term direction to the commodity team and executive management.
  • Provides the overall coordination of the Spectris Corporate supply chain to ensure continuity of supply and that suppliers meet corporate strategic needs. This includes helping to ensure the timely delivery of quality parts consistent with cost targets.
  • Work across internal groups and functional areas; Engineering, Quality, Production, and Service to assure congruent processes as a representative of Supply Chain.
  • Oversite of supplier agreements. Work with Buyer/Planners on contract commercial term negotiation and interfacing with Legal on non-commercial terms.
  • Work with Buyer/Planners and Quality on Supplier selection, qualification, and other groups on RFX's, bid documents, and bid evaluation.
  • Assist Buyer on the creation of category strategies, supplier management plans/practices, and negotiations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent education and/or experience
  • Proven or demonstrated performance developing strategic supplier relationships.
  • Proactive problem solver with strong organizational skills, planning orientation and ability to work material requirement forecasts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent working knowledge of strategic sourcing, production control, and supply chain management
  • Excel price and supply modeling
  • Experience in supply chain management in an electronics &/or high complexity manual-assembly manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of VMI (Vendor Management Inventory), Kaizan and Lean Manufacturing practices
  • Ability to communicate with all levels in an organization.
  • Experience with self-directed work teams.
  • Experience with IFS &/or SAP resource planning systems is preferred.
  • Experience with a high mix / low volume part procurement environment is preferred.
  • Experience in a very high growth rate electronic business is preferred.

The Nuts and Bolts

Location - This is an "in-office" position 50% of the time. The location of this position is in Boulder, CO; anticipated move to Niwot, CO in 2025. The remainder of the time you may work from home. These percentages are targets with the actual schedule to be determined in conjunction with the Director's expectations for the position. Relocation may be offered for this role, but local candidates will receive first consideration.

Pay Range

$85000 - 130000 depending upon experience

How we determine what we pay (compensation philosophy)

Particle Measuring Systems determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for the Boulder, Colorado area. We will evaluate external equity, which is the relative marketplace job worth of jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. For new hires, we try to make competitive offers between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. This allows the new employee room for future merit increases during review cycles. There may be times when we will offer above the midpoint. The decision to do so will be based on the applicant's level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and the compensation rates of the employees within the company doing the same position.
