Summary

Reporting into the Sr. Manager of Procurement, the Commodity Manager will oversee the purchase of Raw Materials (direct) and other products/services (indirect) to be used in Supply Chain Operations. The ideal candidate will be highly detail oriented, with strong analytical and negotiation skills, balanced with the ability to develop and maintain strong strategic supplier relationships. Applicant should have 5+ years of global sourcing experience within Paint & Coatings – or similar Chemical Allied industry – and a strong understanding of chemical production processes and the impact of various economic forces on the chemical industry.

  • Work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment – particularly with other Operations professionals, laboratory personnel and brand development managers.
  • Identify and develop relationships with suppliers who meet the organization’s quality and ethical requirements.
  • Develop supply-chain risk assessments and strategies to compensate for shortfalls.
  • Manage and negotiate contractual relationships to ensure business requirements are met.
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain team to ensure appropriate inventory levels are achieved, optimal logistics are utilized, and required data elements are in place to enable efficient operations.
  • Develop efficient and repeatable processes and SOPs within the organization to streamline business tasks.

Essential Duties
  • Manage contractual commitments and supplier assessments, ensuring all purchases are consistent with quality and delivery requirements.
  • Develop category sourcing strategies, including competitive intelligence, market knowledge, and technical understanding which are aligned with business objectives.
  • Analyze, develop and deliver timely cost information
  • Work with the Benjamin Moore organization (R&D, Operations, Supply Chain Planning, etc.) to participate in supply-based projects which mitigate business risk and drive efficiencies.
  • Negotiate with suppliers for execution of Agreements that achieve lowest total-cost of ownership and which are in accordance with company policies and procedures. Develop and manage RFx’s
  • Develop supply base; forecast market changes; develop and recommend alternative sourcing.

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Supply Chain discipline or in the Sciences strongly preferred
  • CPSM recommended
  • Experience in Procurement, with emphasis on spend areas such as: Chemicals, Raw Materials, Manufacturing Supply, and Global Sourcing preferred
  • Industrial manufacturing and/or Business Management experience preferred
  • Experienced in the use of SAP and Ariba to include analytics, catalogs and contracts
  • Travel Requirements: 20% (Supplier visits/Conferences)
