JOB SUMMARY
The Certified Medical Asst - MOHS will prepare, orient and microtome tissue for immediate evaluation by dermatologists for the removal of certain cutaneous carcinomas. This position assists in the function of the MOHS laboratory by maintaining a quality laboratory environment for efficient and accurate patient services while meeting standards for laboratory accreditation. On days that MOHS surgery is not performed, this position will function as a Certified Medical Assistant, under the direction of a physician. In this capacity, this position will perform a wide variety of patient care activities including, but not limited to, maintenance of clinical records/documentation, administering medications, giving injections and taking vital signs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Prepare, Orient and Microtome tissue for immediate evaluation by dermatologists for the removal of certain cutaneous carcinomas.
Maintains accessioning log, ensure patient specimens, slides and MOHS maps are completely labeled.
Performs proper inking and sectioning of tissue to assess margins and proper placement of tissue on appropriately labeled slide.
Performs routine staining and slide distribution; coverslip appropriately.
Maintains a quality laboratory environment for efficient and accurate patient services while meeting standards for laboratory accreditation.
Maintains supply and chemical Inventory to include labeling, storage and disposal of chemicals and reagents; ording supplies.
Maintains slide files, documents quality, safety, maintenance and temperature logs per procedure and regulatory requirements.
On non-surgical days, performs a wide variety of patient care activities which may include, but not limited to, maintenance of clinical record/documentation, administering medications, giving injections and taking vital signs.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
On the job training, judgment and problem solving skills are requisite for the CMA/Mohs Tech to perform these
duties under the direct supervision of the dermatologist.
Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast paced, often stressful environment.
Demonstrates the appropriate knowledge of principles of aseptic and sterile technique.
Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
Knowledge of computers, keyboard, email programs and the use of web-based applications.
Basic understanding of rules, regulations and retrieval of insurance information.
Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
