Purpose

Position - Union: Chief U.C.&M Mechanic - Maintenance (NYSEG-NY-Binghamton SC)(36677)

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision assists Construction and Maintenance Foreman; or In the absence of the
  • Maintenance Foreman or, in a smaller operation, assumes the responsibilities of a Foreman for Substation,
  • Power Plant, overhead and underground construction and maintenance work.
  • Makes all necessary inspections, reports and requisitions for materials.
  • Performs any of the duties of a 1st Class Construction and Maintenance Man and other related or less
  • skilled work as directed.

Skills and Requirements

  • Should have had at least two years' experience as a 1st Class Construction and Maintenance Man.
  • Must be able to perform semi-routine operations of considerable complexity and variety where standard
  • methods of procedure are available. Equivalent to four years of high school; or two years of high school
  • plus two years apprenticeship or trade school training; or common
  • school graduate plus four years apprenticeship or trade school training.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with Company's Electrical and Mechanical Tagging Rules.
  • Must be familiar with Company's Safety Rules, Pressure Method of Resuscitation on or off the ground and
  • able to render practical First Aid.
  • Must be able to qualify for automobile operator's license.

  • Normal health, physique and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination
  • given by a Company physician, including color perception.
  • Strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.

  • Should possess temperament suited to monotonous or fixed routines.
  • Should possess temperament and qualifications needed to perform under a widely varied routine.
  • Must be able to meet public in pleasant, tactful manner.
  • Must have established reputation for being trustworthy when in possession of confidential information.
  • Must be willing to work extra and/or irregular hours and/or shift schedule.
  • Must be willing to work under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings, as well as the
  • normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
  • Must be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
  • Must be capable of making and holding to decisions with fairness.
  • Must be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and
  • confidence of both superiors and subordinates.
  • Should be tactful in handling employee relations problems.
  • Must be capable of assuming minor supervisory responsibilities.
  • Must be able to plan work of wide scope.
  • Must be capable of making constructive recommendations as to new procedures and standards.
