Business Continuity and Operational Resilience Officer Sr.

The Business Continuity and Operational Resilience Officer Sr. provides Amerant Bank and its subsidiaries with in-depth knowledge of regulatory and industry best practices in business continuity management and operational resilience. This role is specialized in business impact analysis, recovery requirements, strategy development, business continuity testing, crisis and incident response, life safety, supply/chain vendor management, and operational resilience developing an effective framework of procedures, internal controls and governance to manage risk exposures and mitigate or eliminate identified operational risks while enhancing the organization’s resilience position.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and maintain the Bank’s comprehensive Business Continuity Planning Program, which at a minimum meets regulatory standards to ensure the Bank’s ability to recover and restore services in the event of an unforeseen disruption to facilities, technology systems, application, or business processes.
  • Lead the business functional units in the development or enhancement of their respective BCP, including but not limited to: Performing BIA (Business Impact Analysis) and Risk Assessments. Identifying critical, time-sensitive functions, and gathering recovery requirements. Identifying recommendations of recovery strategies and space planning solutions. Assigning Action Plans for mitigation of any gaps identified in BCP. Designing and developing new Business Continuity Plans. Designing, creating, coordinating, and delivering business continuity planning exercises. Preparing presentations and documentation for the BCP and Board Risk Committees.
  • Maintain a close partnership with technology to integrate disaster response planning into the BCP process, when possible, and provide recommendations and subject matter expertise in the design and development of Business Continuity Strategies for the Bank.
  • Design and deliver awareness programs to promote and instill sound risk management practices as part of the corporate organizational culture.
  • Oversee action planning resulting from business continuity items to ensure adequate and timely deficiency remediation.
  • Serve as the BCP Portal Software Administrator.
  • Lead business units in the development and/or enhancement of their BCP Plans and strategy based on lessons learned from crisis/BCP Events.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the organization's Life Safety Program and Framework.
  • Participate in Business Continuity and Life Safety efforts with public and private sectors to understand emergency management implications to the Bank's BCP and Life Safety Program.
  • Ensures compliance with Operational Risk regulations (OCC, Federal Reserve, FDIC, State, FFIEC, Basel, etc.) and provides regulators, internal and external auditor’s information regarding the Organization’s Business Continuity Management program.
  • Enhances existing or implements new risk practices, policies, and solutions according to industry best practices to ensure comprehensive management of risks.
Work Experience:
5+ years of experience in business continuity management
3+ years of experience managing large, corporate business continuity or crisis management programs
Experience in the financial services industry and related regulatory requirements as well as a good understanding of key operational process in banking desired
Experience identifying risk exposure, conducting risk evaluations, and implementing risk controls

Education and/or Certifications:
Bachelor’s Degree Information Technology, Computer Science, or Emergency Management
Certified Business Continuity Planner (CBCP) or Certified Functional Continuity Planner (CFCP) preferred


Technical and Other Essential Knowledge:


Proven experience implementing business continuity best practices, plans, exercises, and disaster recovery tests

Proven technical experience working with IT teams (developers, analysts, architects and engineers) and operational areas

Experience in management a BCP tool a plus

Ability to research, assess, control and manage a variety or risks
Proven experience delivering engaging presentations

Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Product Suite. including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Must possess strong business communications skills verbally and in writing Must exhibit leadership traits and have a passion for serving customers.
