Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Transportation's Bridge Division is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Engineer for a distinctive leadership role as a Bridge Policy and Quality Assurance Engineer. This position is not just a job; it's an opportunity to directly influence the safety and efficiency of over 15,000 state and local bridges. Working closely with the State Bridge Engineer, you will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of critical policies and quality assurance programs that define the standards in bridge policy, design, inspection, inventory, and data management. Your role involves maintaining and elevating the division's esteemed reputation by driving forward practices that ensure the highest levels of excellence. You will also participate actively in national policy and research discussions, ensuring the division stays at the forefront of technological advancements and regulatory standards.

As part of the NDOT team, you'll contribute to planning, developing, designing, constructing, maintaining, and administering the state highway system. Job Duties:
In the role of Bridge Policy and Quality Assurance Engineer, you will undertake a variety of pivotal duties designed to enhance the safety, efficiency, and integrity of Nebraska's bridge infrastructure. The responsibilities outlined below provide a framework for what you will accomplish; however, they represent only a portion of the dynamic and impactful work you will engage in. This role requires a proactive and versatile approach to addressing challenges, ensuring both the continuous improvement of our processes and the advancement of our strategic objectives.
•Develop and Implement Quality Assurance Programs: Spearhead the creation and execution of comprehensive quality assurance programs that encompass the full spectrum of bridge policy, design, inspection, inventory, and data management. This includes setting benchmarks for standards and practices that ensure the integrity and safety of bridge infrastructure across Nebraska.
•Maintain and Update Quality Assurance Processes: Regularly assess and refine quality assurance processes and manuals to align with the latest industry standards and technological advancements. Your efforts will enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, keeping the division at the forefront of best practices.
•Facilitate Collaboration and Support: Act as a key liaison within the division, providing expert guidance on complex technical challenges. Support and enhance team collaboration, ensuring projects are approached effectively and meaningfully to drive quality improvements across bridge infrastructure.
•Engage in Policy Development and Discussions: Take a lead role in national policy and research discussions that affect bridge engineering standards and practices. Your involvement will ensure that the division remains influential and compliant with evolving regulations and innovations.
•Manage Policy Documentation: Oversee the lifecycle of division-wide policy documents, from development to publication. This includes monitoring for necessary edits and updates to ensure documents reflect current policies and practices effectively.
•Author and Lead White Paper Development: Lead and sometimes author white papers detailing departmental efforts related to policy and quality assurance. Your contributions will help shape the division's strategies and communicate its achievements and plans to a broader audience.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and two years of experience performing professional level engineering assignments. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
