Zoetis seeks a talented, experienced individual to provide sample processing, tracking, and inventory support of study biospecimens for PK/PD analyses, biomarker discovery, product safety and efficacy. This role will be primarily responsible for sample logistics as well as continually improving upon current practices in this area using automation and process enhancements. This role requires a molecular biology or medical technologist background, laboratory experience, and the desire to meet the logistical needs of our Research & Development groups.

The successful candidate should have relevant experience in proper sample handling techniques to maintain sample integrity including bioprocessing, transport, storage, and inventory of biological samples. Excellent communication, attention to detail, change agility, organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as proficiency with spreadsheet tools such as Microsoft Excel are essential.

Please note: This position is for a fixed term of 2 years.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Following basic laboratory safety procedures and managing compliance with corporate standards.
  • Operating in a highly matrixed environment and conveying scientific and technical information to a diverse audience, including management, both within and outside the R&D group.
  • Using laboratory automation and informatics systems in support of sample receipt, processing, and inventory management well as study supply provisioning required to meet the objectives of primary pharmacology, PK, diagnostic, biomarker and efficacy testing.
  • Processing and registering, distributing and tracking biological samples.
  • Working collaboratively and being flexible and adaptable in working across many scientific areas simultaneously, with rapidly changing projects and situations.
  • Applying continuous improvement approaches to analyze and suggest improvements for sample logistic processes.
  • Dealing with ambiguity.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Educational background: B.S. (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field) with 1-6+ years of experience or M.S (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field) with 0 - 6+ years of experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and work collaboratively with colleagues representing a broad cross-section of the drug research and development pipeline.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Technology and/or automation experience is a plus.

Work environment:

The placement of this position will be primarily in Kalamazoo, MI. Occasional travel to other Zoetis sites may also be requested.

The person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
