502389 - The Associate Director of Grants and Foundation Relations (AD) is the initial point of contact for faculty and grant seekers. The AD will establish one-on-one relationships with faculty and staff members and provide funding identification and proposal development support. The AD works with the Director of Grants Support and the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations on proposal submission support which includes initiating proposal records, building budgets, assisting with budget justifications, fielding researcher requests for support, interpreting sponsor requirements, assisting with the development of required documentation, assisting with proposal content, assisting with formatting documents, and uploading documents into external portals. The AD assists with post-award administration, including managing the award announcements, and assisting with award negotiation and reporting requirements.
The Associate Director of Grants and Foundation Relations is a member of the Foundation, Corporate Government Relations team, working in close collaboration and coordination with the Director of Grants Support and Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Award 70%

  • Work with faculty and staff to identify funding sources.
  • Interprets and explains funding agency and campus requirements to proposers.
  • Engages in brainstorming/program activities with proposers at the conceptual stage
  • Assists in developing applicable proposal budgets and securing institutional approvals for submission.
  • Serves as part of a team to provide proposal development and support, and Pivot, guidance.
  • Drafts and distributes internal announcements to appropriately acknowledge faculty and university funding successes.
  • In partnership with the Director of CFR, develops proposal narrative outlines based on sponsor requirements and edits and/or write compelling text for a wide array of proposal sections.
  • Serves as backup to the Director of Grant Support in the proposal submission support including initiating proposal records, building budgets, assisting, and uploading documents into external portals.
Post-Award 10%
  • Drafts and distributes internal announcements to appropriately acknowledge faculty and university funding successes.
  • Assists with award setup, subaward tracking and monitoring, and reporting.
Communication 20%
  • Drafts and distributes internal announcements to appropriately acknowledge faculty and university funding successes.
  • Creates and circulates monthly faculty email to help build awareness about FCGR services and upcoming funding opportunities.
  • Collaborating monthly with the Communications department to ensure timely and accurate information regarding grants news and funding highlights.
  • Assist the AVP with Presidential briefings, as needed.
  • Maintaining the website of the Office of Foundation, Corporate and Government Relations: http://grants.richmond.edu/
  • Maintaining discretion and confidentiality about all office transactions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism to effectively handle a broad range of sensitive interpersonal situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and consistently apply a wide variety of complex policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not always exist.
  • Ability to work with frequent changes in policies and procedures, under pressure of deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and research skills; ability to gather, evaluate, and to develop well-reasoned conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to proactively assess work operations and anticipate potential problems; ability to develop and implement strategies for preventing/resolving problems.
  • Ability to effectively perform work of a highly sensitive and confidential nature that requires access to information. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Initiative in independently planning, organizing, and performing work assignments within broadly defined parameters.
  • Ability to work with a high level of productivity and accuracy/attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, social media platforms, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a heavily bureaucratic environment which requires regular interaction with a number of levels within the organization and multiple outside agencies.
  • Working knowledge, or ability to quickly learn, university infrastructure, policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends on occasion.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 3-5 years of experience in fundraising or sponsored research.
  • Demonstrated ability in grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, particularly within categories pertinent to submission of grant proposals.
  • Working knowledge of federal regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 7 (Hiring Range $52,829.00 to $69,999.00 annually)
