About This Role:

The Department of Nutrition, Hospitality & Human Services at Lamar University invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in Family Studies with an expected start date of Spring 2023.

We are seeking a dedicated faculty member to join our Family Studies program. This position will provide vital support to the growing online program as well as the hybrid undergraduate family studies programs. The family studies undergraduate programs include a fully online degree option, a hybrid family studies degree option, and a family & consumer science teacher certification program. The primary mission of the family studies program is to provide undergraduate level education with a curriculum encompassing the in-depth interrelationships among family members and their connection to a larger community, the socialization of children, and human interaction throughout the lifespan.


What You'll Do - Position Duties

As a member of our team, you will have an impact on our clients through accomplishment of the following responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction as assigned in family studies courses per academic year in different modalities, including in-person or online.
  • Develop/revise online courses utilizing the Quality Matters review process and on-campus courses utilizing best teaching practices for the profession.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor student performance outcomes through ongoing assessment.
  • Advise and mentor students (family studies and family & consumer teacher certification).
  • Collaborate with other departments and units across campus.
  • Provide service and outreach to the Department, College, the University, and to the profession.
  • Demonstrate effective scholarly productivity.
  • Collaborate with faculty in areas of research, outreach, and pursuit of external funding.
