ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Biological Science at Florida State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor level in the broadly defined area of Computational Genomics. Candidates are expected to join the Cell and Molecular Biology graduate faculty area in Biological Science. Successful candidates are expected to establish a productive and extramurally funded research program, such as major NIH or NSF grant funding, and contribute to undergraduate teaching in genetics, molecular biology, or bioinformatics, and graduate education by supervising Biology PhD students.
QualificationsA doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate is required along with a demonstrated record of achievement in research. We are seeking candidates who develop and apply innovative computational genomics approaches to drive biological discoveries at the cellular or molecular level. Applicants using multi-omics, big data analytics, dry or wet lab research, systems biology, or AI are encouraged to apply.
Preferred QualificationsThe Department of Biological Science is an academically diverse and highly interactive group with more than 40 tenure-track faculty members with expertise in genetics, epigenetics, genomics, chromosome biology, development, neuroscience, ecology, evolution, conservation biology, structural biology, and virology. The Department has a strong track record of supporting faculty success through engaged, formal mentoring, collegiality, and fostering collaborations within and across departments.
Researchers have access to excellent and fully staffed departmental and university core facilities supporting genomics, high-performance computing, molecular cloning and NGS library services, high-throughput sequencing, cryo-EM, confocal and light sheet microscopy, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, and the National High Magnetic Field laboratory. The department also maintains BSL2 labs, greenhouses, field sites, and vivaria.
