SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Alumni Marketing and Membership supports and ensures the success of the Alumni Association's operations, including its membership program, communications, events, and special initiatives. The Assistant Director implements, advances, and measures various creative projects for the alumni office, including general marketing, electronic communications, and social media. They are responsible for designing and editing graphics for use in multimedia, newsletters, emails, website, and more. This team member works closely with colleagues throughout Philanthropy & Engagement on: targeted stewardship initiatives that communicate and celebrate donor impact; a comprehensive membership program that recruits and retains a wide variety of alumni; engaging on-campus events; and growing the Alumni Brick Garden. At a broader level, this role assists in the development and implementation of engagement strategies and programs to increase alumni involvement and philanthropy at Texas A&M University-Commerce (A&M-Commerce).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing

  • Utilizes creative media, including internal and external web, social media tools, applications, and online communities to help increase visibility, interest, and connectivity with alumni constituents.
  • Deploys and maintains ongoing efforts for optimized, strategic, branded presences in select social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram, and also monitors and responds to messages within these channels.
  • Represents the University and the Alumni Association through web and social media campaigns and messaging.
  • Reviews, updates, and creates new Alumni Association website content with a focus on developing, connecting, and engaging with constituents.
  • Collects and formats alumni news and stories for Alumni Association newsletters and emails.
  • Designs alumni brochures, signs, newsletters, presentation templates and materials, and other media as needed in partnership with university marketing, communication, and licensing colleagues.
  • Coordinates marketing, orders, installation, and thank-you correspondence for the Alumni Brick Garden.
  • Assists Director, Assistant Director, and Philanthropy & Engagement team members with on and off campus events that involve Alumni Engagement.
  • Aids with planning and strategic publicizing of alumni special events.
  • Serve as an active team member participating in creative brainstorm sessions, strategy creation, and implementation and development of metrics-based alumni engagement campaigns.
  • Acts as first point of contact for the Alumni Center's room reservations. Keeps calendar of events and assigns room set-up to student workers. First point of contact with on-campus caterer (Sodexo) as it pertains to meals in building.
  • Supports alumni office by monitoring and responding in a timely manner to alumni.edu email inquiries, answering main alumni phone line and assisting walk-ins

Membership

  • Develops and implements the annual membership/marketing plan that includes a budget for membership recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Creates and oversees the development, production and mailing of all membership acquisition, renewal and reactivation efforts. Leads annual membership solicitations, including electronic appeals, mailings, event solicitations, as well as best practices from other alumni associations.
  • Exceeds the membership and annual revenue goals through direct mail, e-mail and other effective methods.
  • Develops, maintains, and manages fulfillment of member services/benefits, including the creation and implementation of a recent graduate alumni program.
  • Creates and oversees special membership offers.
  • Monitors results of membership marketing and provides analysis, as appropriate.
  • Develops strategies to increase sustaining member contributions.

Philanthropy & Engagement

  • Serves as a member of the division's annual giving strategy, stewardship, data, and communications teams.
  • Collaborates proactively with the AVP of Philanthropy & Engagement, Director of Annual Giving, and Assistant Director of Stewardship to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated solicitation and stewardship strategy for broad alumni and donor outreach, identification, acquisition and retention.
  • Works with others to create and execute an annual communications calendar for Philanthropy & Engagement, incorporating stewardship communications, annual giving campaigns and donor events in conjunction with other Alumni events and campus activities throughout the year.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related area (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Three (3) years of experience, direct experience using Microsoft Office in a Mac/PC environment. Knowledge of web publishing and social media. Graphic design experience. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with proficiency in Associated Press [AP] style. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Excellent team player and collaborative spirit. Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others; learn new technology and software programs; create engaging print and digital content; and stay abreast of industry best practices. Ability to exercise initiative.

  • Other Requirements: Night and weekend hours are frequently required, as is some travel.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with nonprofit communications, annual giving, event planning, and/or writing and editing for publications, social media, and distinct audiences.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge, NXT or other similar fundraising or customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
  • Experience with digital communications systems, such as Emma, Constant Contact, ThankView, social media platforms, Sprout Social, etc.
  • Experience with design software, such as Adobe's InDesign (including Express and Photoshop) along with Wordpress for content updates.
  • Knowledge of promotional, feature, and news writing styles.
