Program Description

Offered at our Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort location; the Accounting College Internship Program is designed to last 3-6 months depending upon the participant's availability and the needs of the department. The participants should expect to work a full-time schedule in this program with flexibility for part-time schedules based on participants course schedule. All College Internships are paid at an hourly wage.

The Accounting College Internship Program also offers:
  • Immersion program offering participants work experience in one specific department
  • Exposure to work directly related to the analysis of company financials including budgeting and forecasting
  • Exposure to work directly related to the financial activities of the company with a focus on accounting tasks relating to general ledger maintenance
  • Comprehensive onboarding
  • Participating in operational duties within assigned department
  • eLearning opportunities
  • Virtual Meetings with site and company leaders
    Participants will be expected to learn and perform the job duties of the position(s) within their assigned department. Interns may also be involved in department projects.

    Participants will also learn components of what drives Guest Satisfaction and Associate Engagement on site will have opportunities to contribute to these important matters. Interns will be introduced to and have the opportunity to demonstrate the company's values and core beliefs.

    Successful College Interns will be given a high level of consideration when applying for future career opportunities with Marriott Vacation Club.

    Desired Skills:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PPT, and Word
    • Have a data analytical mindset and comfortable working with an extensive data set and summarizing the finding
    • Have good organization skills and complete tasks timely
    • Detailed oriented to research, gather receipts, and back up during the audit or dispute situation from other departments.
    Tasks:
    • Review the contract and certificate of insurance to ensure no outstanding items
    • Gather data to create the daily revenue tracker for the resort
    • Analyze vendor purchase and expense trend
    • Able to assist with balance sheet reconciliation
    • Review specific audit requirements and ensure all audit supports are submitted timely
    • Assist with preparing journal entries during the month-end closing

    Education
    • Candidate should be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing the following degree/majors: Finance, Accounting, Taxation, Economics, Business Management, Risk Management or related major/minor.
    • It is preferred that the candidate has completed junior level course work
    • Candidates who have an undecided major may also be considered.
    Experience
    • Past Interns who are interested in completing an additional internship will be considered first. Previous performance rating will be taken into consideration.
    • Ability to navigate MS Office, Outlook and Excel
    Standards of Dress & Grooming
    • Finance and Accounting Corporate Interns must adhere to Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporation Policy HR-EMP-19 Standards of Appearance.
    • Non-uniformed interns should dress with good business taste and in clothing appropriate to their jobs. Good business taste does not include ripped blue jeans, shorts, spandex pants, tank tops, midriffs, halter tops, or other generally recognized casual sportswear. Dress or skirt length should be no shorter than four inches above the knee. All interns must wear proper undergarments.
