Finding a qualified worker or skilled worker is not an easy task for employers. As you can imagine, there is a wide range of jobs that are looking to be filled. Jobs looking to be filled include specific part-time jobs or full-time jobs. These jobs require different skill levels and some require high level technical skills, and other require high level people skills. Because of the wide range of jobs to be filled, it can be difficult for employers to identify a qualified worker. With that said, here are some ideas to stand out as a qualified worker to employers on diversity and inclusion job boards.
1. Be Open
What do we mean by "be open"? Well, what if you are applying for a specific Sales job, and instead of that specific job an employer sees your resume as a better fit for another Sales job doing different work? Are you closed off to that idea? Or are you open to it? Remember, recruiters have to fill specific jobs, and if they feel they can use a qualified worker elsewhere, it may be in your best interest to consider the offer even if it is not exactly what you were looking for. Getting an "in" with a company may be a good thing to build on. Now, this does not mean to accept any job you are offered, but if you see value in it and it is slightly different than what you wanted, be open to considering it.
2. Learn Technical Skills
Technology in jobs continues to grow every day. Many conversations, meetings, and even interviews are now conducted through a video meeting platform. What does that mean for you? Maybe you have a specific skill set that a recruiter is looking for, but do you have some of the technical skills needed to conduct business in 2020/2021? If not, it might be a good idea to get up to speed on those skills. They may not be listed in the job description, but they definitely may be part of the job.
3. Put your skills to work
We are at a time where skills are needed, and skills are needed fast. If you posses skills that employers are looking to hire for, be ready to put your skills to work! Letting an employer know that you are ready to go is an encouraging thing for a recruiter. They want to fill positions, and if you are a qualified worker, they will most likely try to push you through as soon as possible. Be ready!
